6 Full-time 1 day ago Full Job Description Introduction The City of Tucson Information Technology Department (ITD) is seeking a motivated and innovative Data Visualization Analyst to join our team.
The ITD GIS and Data Analytics team assists with overall GIS functions and analytics which spans the City organization to provide centralized access to managed data to find trends and answer questions that improve service delivery and contribute to quality of life.

General Description The Data Visualization Analyst is responsible for creating and maintaining geographic information systems (GIS) maps and data visualizations for use in internal and external communications.
This role will work closely with GIS Analysts, Data Analysts, and other technical staff to design and produce high-quality maps, data visualizations, graphics, web content, and print layouts for a variety of purposes, including presentations, reports, and web applications.

Responsibilities:
Enhance the organization's communications capabilities by staying up to date with the latest technologies and techniques.
Develop maps and data visualizations for internal and external communications, including reports, presentations, graphics, and web applications.
Design cartographic layouts for print and web using principles of cartography and design.
Work with Data Analysts to understand and interpret data and use that knowledge to create effective and accurate maps, data visualizations, and graphics.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that maps and visualizations meet the needs of different stakeholders and audiences.
Perform accessibility evaluations for data-related web applications.
Work with City staff to develop and assist in communication campaigns including websites, social media, and print media.
Initiate, coordinate, and maintain outreach efforts including marketing, newsletters, and training materials.
Present data in the form of a story, helping fashion data to make the most sense - and most meaning - for the intended audience.
Essential Functions Performs administrative duties by preparing and reviewing reports and correspondence, performing safety audits and inspections, reviewing policies and procedures, providing advice, researching and analyzing information such as cost-benefit studies, developing and maintaining databases and responding to and forwarding inquiries GIS Analysis.
Analyze GIS data for departmental planning using high-level GIS tools and software.
The analysis is typically spatially oriented in order to answer questions of where.
Where is the best or worst spot? Where would it be best to install pedestrian crossings taking into account multiple inputs such as traffic incidents, people attractions, bike routes, etc.
Creates maps and presentations for public meetings, manages projects for public access to map data, collaborates with professional contractors on GIS program requirements Design and create GIS applications.
Design and create web and mobile GIS applications and databases to assist employees with their job functions in order to improve efficiency.
Example would be mobile GIS applications that allow field inspectors an efficient way to inspect and record locations and conditions of field screen outfalls Manages data for environmental reporting.
(ADEQ, ADWR, Reclaimed Water Reports, Storm Water Permit Reports, Water use/audit reports, Back flow) GIS software and hardware installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and training.
In person or remotely, resolve GIS problems regarding software or training issues for employees such as driver installations and database connections Manages and directs complex projects by assigning work, forecasting timelines and project parameters, reviewing and approving plans and documents, devising solutions to problems, deploying resources, ensuring projects are completed effectively and efficiently within budget time frames, studying and approving agreements, disbursing payments, conducting and attending meetings with associated parties Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education Level & Type:
Bachelor's Degree Minimum Experience
Qualifications:
At least 4 years of experience in working and interpreting GIS data and applications, managing complex projects and coordinating experts from different tools Special Job Requirements GIS technology experience and proficiency required Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and engaging manner.
Extensive knowledge and experience with WCAG 2.
0 accessibility standards and guidelines.
Experience with web GIS tools including StoryMaps, Experience Builder, and ArcGIS Hub.
Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Qlik, or PowerBI.
Experience with accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
Understanding of good cartographic design.
Familiarity with web design including HTML and CSS.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
Experience working with cross-functional teams and coordinating with external partners preferred.

Virtual Oral Boards with Portfolio Review will be held March 21, 2023 Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.
An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
20% of your rating for education and work experience 80% of your rating for your panel board interview This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.
If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must present your documentation at the time of your interview.
