The Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization leads in mechanical hardware design, development, as well as production using state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. ME s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) department is seeking a Senior Ceramist/High-Temperature Materials Engineer to work in our Tucson, AZ facility.

This position is Onsite.

The (M&PE) department charter is to leverage material and process expertise throughout Raytheon. We are committed to excellence in supporting our customers and allies worldwide.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Responsible for supporting all phases of the product life cycle (including design, development, and production) for a multitude of programs.

  • The analyses will cover a wide range of topics in ceramics and high-temperature materials from material synthesis, characterization, processing, and failure analysis.

  • Work directly with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Operations Engineering, Systems Engineering, government customers and subcontracted suppliers from design concept through production.

  • Work on several analyses in parallel and with other areas of expertise in materials, chemistry, metallurgy, coatings, and optics.

  • Working with Component Engineers, Program Chief Engineers, and Failure Investigation Teams / Failure Review Boards (FIT / FRB). This may also require periodic presentations to these entities or even Program / Raytheon management.

  • Develop methods to characterize material quality improvement collaboratively with internal and supplier team.

  • Create and communicate strategy for material maturation.

Basic
Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering or Material Science or similar degree

  • 5 years of experience in an engineering / manufacturing technology environment or Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering or Material Science

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Experience in brazing and joining.

  • Experience with extreme temperature structural materials

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes for high temperature composites

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
