Product Development Engineer
JOB PURPOSE: To assess opportunities for the development of new products and projects based on top-line growth and bottom-line impacts. To assist with the preparation and review of information to support sales proposals that meet customer requirements and company objectives. To apply technical expertise and project-management skill as needed to support development projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Establishes business cases and technical-feasibility assessments to support project proposals for medical device design, development and manufacturing customers
Estimates the unit cost of production
Evaluates the risk and reward of new or existing projects
Recommends next steps to meet customer needs and company goals
Work closely with the engineering team to achieve technical accuracy in cost estimates and assessments of fit with existing equipment and capabilities
Takes the lead to gather information relating to product concepts feasibility and project scope, and identifies appropriate data to use for estimates
Works with customers and applies industry knowledge to understand customer needs, competitive positioning, and requirements to turn new product opportunities into realized medical devices
Serves as technical lead to specify work scope and cost information for sales estimates and proposals
Responsible for engineering, design, and configuration aspects of sales proposals
Leads in preparation of proposal documents and manufacturer documentation
Provides reporting analysis of jobs won and lost
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or another relevant technical discipline
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within product design and development
Knowledge of medical device design and regulatory requirements
Analytical skills and problem-solving ability
Ability to independently apply knowledge to their job function using guidelines and instructions
Accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness
Proficient computer and communication skills
A wide degree of creativity and latitude
Travel: 25% or as needed
Preferred:
Ability to use Microsoft Project
Ability to work with financial models
10 years directly related experience
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
