Lead Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

This position is located in Saguaro National Park, in the Interpretation Division. Operates an electronic cash register, computer or point of sales system, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes and federal recreation passports in accordance with established guidelines, and verifies entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. Prepares remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Maintains necessary accountability records. Troubleshoots accounting problems by correcting difficult errors that are unsolvable by others which may involve correction of related reports. Performs reconciliations of credit card transactions and revenue generated through pay.gov and/or national recreation reservation service. Leads three or more full-time employees. Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Assist with the orientation of and provide on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Responsible for collecting appropriate fees at park entrance station, visitor centers and iron rangers following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift, using journal and receipt tapes, end of shift reports and a register of voided transactions. Responsible for providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest. Incumbent explains the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability and hiking trails; distributes maps, brochures and other printed material; informs visitors of potential safety hazards; and provides directions and routes of travel through the park. Provide public orientation and explanations of current park events, resource management projects, management policies and legislative updates on issues affecting the natural, historical and/or cultural preservation of the area. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/20/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either full-time (or 40 hours a week) or part-time with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report, handling, tracking, depositing monies, using software programs to maintain fee and stock data; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions, planning, scheduling, and assigning work to subordinate staff collecting fees and providing technical and policy direction according to agency fee management. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
